The Parliamentarian Caucus on Migration and Development has expressed the profound shock at the sudden death of its chairman Israfil Alam MP who died of respiratory complications on Monday morning.
In a message, the caucus secretariat and also WARBE Development Foundation extended its heartfelt condolence at the untimely demise of lawmaker Israfil Alam.
The secretariat recalled his pivotal role in protecting and promoting rights of migrant workers.
‘We are remembering our leader, our friend Hon. MP Md. Israfil Alam, Chairperson of the Bangladesh Parliamentarian Caucus on Migration and Development, a wonderful and gentle soul, true friend of migrants who will forever remain in our hearts,’ said WARBE DF director Jasiya Khatoon.
She added that they had a lot of memories with the caucus chairman. ‘We will never forget him. In this sorrowful time, we would like to extend our heartfelt condolences. May he rest in peace! ‘
WARBE DF Chairman Syed Saiful Haque and also prominent migration activist recalled the active role played by Israfil Alam in different international forums.
‘Israfil Alam MP has taken the Bangladesh migration issues from grassroots to the UN level,’ he said, adding that the lawmaker participated in last Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) held in Quito, Ecuador where he called for the global intervention for protection of the migrant workers and refugees.
In his message, Saiful Haque prayed for salvation of the departed soul and extended his sympathy to the bereaved family members.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen also expressed his condolence to the death of Israfil Alam.
The parliamentary Caucus on migration and development was launched on 31st March, 2017 at Park Town Restaurant. The parliamentarian Caucus on Migration and Development has been formed in a joint collaboration with British Council and WARBE Development Foundation.
Israfil Alam, Chairman of parliamentarian Caucus on Migration and Development, made the declaration as a chairperson of the Caucus as well as read the proclamation. The parliamentary Caucus acts as a focal group the parliament members who works in an advocate framework to ensure rights of migrant workers.
The goals of the Caucus include working for the development of legal framework and migrant friendly deal in national, regional and international arenas. The Caucus inspects the workplaces of workers abroad and draw attention of respective parliament members to provide necessary assistance to them.
