National Mourning Day observed in Brunei

Bangladesh High Commission in Bandar Seri Begawan observed the National Mourning Day on Thursday at the 44th martyrdom anniversary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the Mission premises with due solemnity and reverence.

The programme of the day began with the hoisting of flag at half-mast by High Commissioner Air Vice Marshal (Retired) Mahmud Hussain in honour of the souls, which embraced martyrdom on the ominous night of August 15th  1975, according to a press release.

The observance comprised of events like- recitation of versus from Holy Al-Quran, one-minute silence in honour of the members and close relations of Bangabandhu family, who sacrificed their lives on August l5th, reading out of the messages of the President, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister and Foreign State Minister.

The morning chapter of the observance program ended with a discussion session on the lifelong struggle of the Father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Emphasizing the prolific life and political acumen of Bangabandhu, the discussants laid emphasis on the accomplishment of the dreams of the great leader in order to turn Bangladesh as a developed country by 2030.

Paying homage to the great architect of the independence of Bangladesh, the High Commissioner urged all Bangladeshi Diasporas as well as expatriates in Brunei to illuminate young minds with the proper history of the liberation war of Bangladesh and the life of Bangabandhu.

A special prayer and Tahlil were offered in the evening chapter of the program seeking the blessings of Almighty Allah for the eternal peace of the departed soul of Bangabandhu and the other martyrs, as well as for the peace and prosperity of the country under the leadership of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Bangladesh High Commission's first secretary Jelal Hossain moderated the session.
