Govt Action Sought to Stop Human Trafficking

The World Day Against Trafficking in Persons has been observed in Bangladesh as elsewhere across the globe with a theme “Call Your Government To Action”.

The USAID funded Bangladesh Counter Trafficking-In-Persons (BC/TIP) program of Winrock International organized a human chain followed by a discussion meeting in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh on July 30, 2019 to commemorate the day in a befitting manner.

The USAID  and Winrock International organized a human chain to observe the World Day Against Trafficking-In-Persons 2019 in front of the National Press Club.

Representatives from UN agencies, international and global development organizations, national NGOs, members of trafficking survivors’ voice ANIRBAN and returnee migrant labourers participated in the human chain.

Nazrul Islam, Program Director of Winrock International, Rafiqul Islam  of INCIDIN Bangladesh and Siraj Uddin Belal of Justice and Care spoke at human chain.

They called for reducing migration cost, stopping illegal visa trade, establishing separate tribunal for prosecution of human trafficking cases and monitoring sub-agents. 

Later a discussion was held at CIRDAP International Conference Center and the theme was “Call Your government to Action.”

In the opening remarks, Liesbeth Zonneveld portrayed an overall scenario of TIP situations in Bangladesh. She urged the government of Bangladesh to put importance on the TIP report published by the US State Department and strengthen the coordination among the government of Bangladesh , international development partners and citizen stakeholders.

Human rights activists advocate Salma Ali and Masul Ali also spoke at the meeting.
